House Roll Call Vote To Shift Taxes without cutting spending
The following is the Roll Call Vote regarding LD 1925. This bill was designed to lower income taxes for many, raise income taxes for some and raise sales taxes for all. The bill does not cut any government spending. It is a tax shift by any other name. It passed the House by a margin of 87- 49 (15 absent).
An attempt to adopt a constitutional amendment requiring a 2/3 majority vote to raise or lower sales, income or excise taxes also was defeated in the House despite passage in the Senate.
The burden of this tax shift will also fall on Maine businesses - particularly small businesses.
